A Pink Saturday Request

This is a very different Pink Saturday post from the usual for me.  On Wednesday, April 27th, 2011, the state of Alabama suffered the most devastating natural disaster since Katrina ravaged New Orleans.  The horror began early Wednesday morning and continued throughout the day as tornadoes continually pounded our area.   I am blessed because my loved ones are safe, and our houses are standing.  Just a few miles up the road, down the road...in all directions....devastation is everywhere.  The death count last night was at 228.  It continues to rise as search teams comb the wreckage.  Untold numbers are injured, homeless, and suffering.  Please pray for all who were touched in Alabama and in other states where the tornadoes showed no mercy.   I am sharing with you this tragedy on a Pink Saturday post because the color pink is a symbol of innocence and simple beauty.  We will all be clinging to hope in the upcoming days.... hope that some semblance of peace and beauty will return to those who have lost loved ones and their life's dreams.

Beverly at How Sweet the Sound hosts Pink Saturday each week.  Thank you, Beverly, for the chance to share with all "Pinks"

In memory of those who were lost and in empathy for those who suffered loss on April 27, 2011,
when tornados touched down in the Heart of Dixie, our beloved Alabama.

Excerpted from The Woodbine Poems

"Oh where is their happy cottage home
Where want ne 'er frowned nor grief would come
Where is their father who gazed with joy
On his two fair girls and his infant boy
Where is their mother's watchful care
That tender love they were wont to share
Their home is no more neath the tall trees wave"

Praying for Our State

WKRG.com News

This is the video of my hometown as the tornadoes ripped through yesterday.  My heart is breaking as I look at the buildings that hold so many childhood memories leveled.  Loss of human life across Alabama is now at 128, and with search and rescue today, predictions are that number will rise significantly.  Please pray for everyone across the nation who has been affected by these monstrous storms.

Unique Storage

This is an unusual scheme for adding storage...drawers built into the wall!   It reminds me of a built in doll house from my growing up years.  My uncle constructed a beautiful doll house hidden in one of the walls of my two cousins' room. Since we lived 600 miles apart, I didn't get to visit often, but when I did, I was enchanted by how the hinged door opened a hidden world. The doll house was only four very small rooms, but it seemed like a mansion!.  The neat thing, literally, for my aunt was that when the girls were finished playing, all the tiny pieces were safely put away....no clutter!  I love hidden storage, and though these drawers and their knobs are visible, it's a clever idea!  Who can't use more storage?  (Photo from House Beautiful)

To Dream

To dream ...
of a cottage by the seaside
surrounded by a garden of perennials
that return year after year
much like a conversation
with a long time friend.

Just -a-swingin'

Happy Pink Saturday on a late Friday afternoon! Yes, I am an early bird this week.  As I touch the keys, a thunderstorm is coming through our area.  One of my favorite things to do when there is a rain shower is to sit on my screened porch in my double rocker with a magazine or book.  When I spotted this sweet PINK swing online during a downpour , I drooled.   It's made of birch, and it looks so inviting.  What a great alternative to the rocker, eh?  Alas, I did not order it...very pricey.  It doesn't cost anything to look though!  (Photo from the web)

Haiku My Heart

Tall blades felt the scythe,
and fell away to reveal
A new learning curve.

Having taken a short break from Haiku My Heart Fridays, it's good to be back. This haiku was inspired by some yard work earlier in the week.  Even a perfectly groomed lawn has a few potential weeds.  So, it is with the "best laid plans."
If an economy of words teases your mind, you'll love visiting Rebecca's blog.  She shares haiku enthusiasts' posts each Friday.  Just click here(Photo from Flickr)

Dressing the Spring Table!

Happy Pink Saturday!  You'll always find a vintage tablecloth on my kitchen table.  Tablecloths add that cottage feeling and just seem to say, "Welcome."  Checking out some pretty Spring cloths this week, I found this gorgeous one with pink wisteria hanging on its edges.  Absolutely fab, don't you think? This and many other vintage linens are available at Sharon's Antiques Vintage Fabrics.

To visit other Happy Pink Saturday posts, visit Beverly at How Sweet the Sound.  She has the guided tour info  for our Saturday get togethers.  I promise that if you love PINK, you won't be disappointed!  Thanks, Beverly for hosting week after week!
