Sweet Pink Embroidery

As a very young girl, I loved to watch Mama embroider dresser scarfs. She taught me the  lazy daisy, chain, and french knot stitches.  Peaceful summer afternoons!  It has been a lot of years since I've even thought about embroidery.  Then a few weeks ago, I received an email from Herrschner's online store.  If you like crafts...any craft....visit their site.  I clicked on embroidery, and some of the sweetest linens appeared.  These cute birdhouse kitchen towels would take just a jiffy to embellish.  I haven't ordered yet because summer brings so many things to the plate, but what a great early autumn idea.  Lest, I forget  HAPPY PINK SATURDAY!!!!

Weeds Are Flowers, TOO!

"Weeds are flowers, too, once you get to know them."

                                  ~  A. A. Milne

Queen Anne's Lace
In spite of a downpour on Friday, the lawn is parched.  Some plants are thriving though.  THE WEEDS!  I ran across A.A. Milne's quote and thought, "Sure enough!"  I did a bit of research and found that Queen Anne's Lace is considered a weed.  I've always loved its lacy, frilly blooms.  Look at the pretty lavender-blue chicory!  Can we say that's a weed?  Then, the pretty yellow button flowers on the stalk....all weeds!  I call it the "AH-CHOO" Yellow weed.  What a reputation the lowly weed has endured.  The fact that weeds are so easy to grow on their own makes them undesirable. (Insert sneeze)   What pretty weeds are growing in your garden today?  Have a blessed Monday!

The Shadow of a Father

Dad has been gone for almost 10 years now.  When your father is no longer there to hug you and make all things better, Father's Day becomes a time for remembering the little things.  Though my daddy was not one to sit around and read books of poetry, from time to time he shared his school days by reciting his favorite childhood poem to me.  The poem is My Shadow by Robert Louis Stevenson.  Daddy would always get a twinkle in his eye as he quickly recited the words.  I loved to hear him say those words because it took both of us back to his own childhood.  Usually, he followed his recitation with the story about walking to school for many miles.  What child of the '50s has not heard that one?  Though the poem has several verses, I am sharing only the first. It has even more meaning today because I still walk in my father's shadow as his little girl. Happy Father's Day, Daddy!  The memory of your voice saying the words will always make me smile.  Happy Father's Day to all of you fantastic dads out there who have children walking in your shadow.  May you give them the same happy memories that my own daddy gave to me.

I have a little shadow that goes in and out with me
And what can be the use of him is more than I can see.
He is very, very like me from the heels up to the head;
And I see him jump before me, when I jump into my bed.

Sweet Pink Gypsy

Backyard Bohemia!

HAPPY PINK SATURDAY!  Summer seems to bring out the gypsy spirit in everyone.  Quick day trips to local places, weekend drives to the beach, and the one week, once a year getaway set the eternal bohemian free!  This gypsy wagon painted pretty pink has hopefully seen many road adventures for may years.  Now it offers a perfect backyard retreat to plan the next journey.  I love the florals and the cute bench out front.  If you peek through the door,  there are sweet, pink curtains to entice you to step inside to dream.

The Look of Summer

Vintage Glass Towel Holder
Painted Floors Done RIGHT!
Seaside Backsplash
Browsing some decorating sites, these kitchen pics really say SUMMER!  So cool.   The vintage mint green towel holders are such a find!  The painted floors reflect the June sunshine so perfectly. The sea glass backsplash makes cooking on these early summer days a lot more fun!  Hmmm...early summer days?  The porch thermometer is reading 98 degrees.  (Photos from countryliving.com)

Hen and Chicks Basket

Looking at hanging baskets online, I found this one containing the adorable cottage plant called " hen and chicks,"  which was one of my mother's favorites.  She always had a pot of this succulent nearby, and she took such glee in pointing out the  "hen" with her brood when asked about it.  This is the first time that I have ever seen it used in a hanging planter.  I found it at Better Homes and Gardens which has lots of ideas for hanging gardens.  I am sometimes overwhelmed when looking in the garden shop for new ideas that blend to add to the pots.  BHG has several pictures of hanging plants, labeled with plant names for each.  No guesswork needed.  Some growing tips are included, too.  The hen and chicks requires little to no watering.  That makes my heart sing!  What hanging plants are dressing up your outdoor spaces this week?  (Photo from Better Homes and Gardens)

Saturday's Gratitude

What makes a Saturday morning in early June special?

Hot coffee with sausage and  biscuits and honey butter...

Flipping casually throught the weekend sales scouting for a few bargains...

Hearing the birds chirp in the backyard...

Watching the "fur babies" lazy around ...

Hearing a lawn mower in the distance...

Taking a peek at the raised garden planted last week..

Journaling for just a few lines ...

Feeling the cool air before the Southern sun rises high in the sky...

So much gratitude for the little things that make Saturday morning special!

Wouldn't this PINK hammock be the perfect spot to while away some time?
