Fall-ing In Love!

The stark and the draped!  Such is Fall!

I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not,
when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.
 Henry David Thoreau

I always "fall" in love with Thoreau again at this time of year.  From the first time that I was introduced to his poetry and essays in high school, I have felt a kindred spirit.  To live in the woods in a log cabin just observing nature for a couple of years seems like the ultimate journey back to oneself.  Everyday I try to do a much abbreviated visit in the yard.  This morning I took a few pictures of a blustery, dark Autumn which happens to be my favorite kind!   I gazed at nature in awe.  To be the only one in the universe who will ever see that bird, that blade of grass, or that blazing leaf at that precise moment and place in time is an awesome discovery! Best of all, it's free!  It's available to everyone of us twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week.  We only have to open our eyes and senses.

Me too! I love Thoreau and Robert Frost. I haven't read either in years.
It is wonderful to just sit and watch, breathe, and live with nature. It teaches you something new every single day.
Have a great day.

What a wonderful piece--and how true.

I love this time of year.
And the woods--this is my retreat as of late.
They're gorgeous. And I always leave better for the experience.
