Special Pink Saturdays for December!

Welcome to the first Pink Saturday post for December. The hostess for the event is Beverly at How Sweet the Sound. Beverly requested that our December posts be a bit different. Our "theme" for this week is a special holiday memory. This one always comes to mind as the years roll along.

Having grown up in the rural South, I have many memories of spending the days before Christmas looking at the Sears wishbook. The beautiful catalog usually arrived during late October. Just looking at its cover was magic. The Christmas of 1958 was very special for me because I had dreamed of owning a beautiful "stove" from the Sears pages ever since the mailman left Heaven at the door. Lo and behold...my prayers were heard! Santa brought me just what I had asked for. It was in PINK!! I treasured that pink stove, and I cooked many delicious meals for my Tiny Tears, Betsy Wetsy, and Toodles dolls!

The pics on this post are of the actual 1958 Sears catalog cover and from the toy section! Click on each image to reveal the prices of the 50's! The stove's picture was not in color, but the description said pink!!! The color was the main reason that I asked for it! Even at the young age of 7, I knew that pink ruled!

The pictures are taken from a beautiful site dedicated to the "wishbook." Click here to visit Wishbook Web. Its creators have spent countless hours scanning pics of the original Sears catalogs. You can journey back to the 30's, 40's or into the modern 70's! Whatever your decade, this is a great time of the year to visit and reminisce. The actual "full size" pages of all the catalogs are available for viewing, so the prices are right there for you to see. Oh, the prices...what a memory!!!

While reminiscing I must not forget to say THANK YOU to Beverly again! She spends lots of time hostessing these Pink Saturday visits. You are appreciated, Beverly! Please take some time and visit How Sweet the Sound. So many other links to other Pink Saturday participants await you there! (Photos from Wishbook Web)

I had the exact same stove and sink - but mine were in white, alas! Oh thanks so much for this post. I spent hours and hours pouring over the pages in the Sears Wishbook. We couldn't wait for it to arrive. Don't you miss that? I do. Happy Pink Saturday!

Good Morning Sweetie...
Happy Pink Saturday. I so love this post. You will have to go and read my pink post and you will see why.

Those little stoves were just precious. It was never on my list oddly enough. I usually asked for a doll. I will have to check out that site you have shared. Thank you for the memories today. Please stop by and let me share my pink post with you. You might even remember what I have shared today.

Country hugs sweetie...Sherry

What a wonderful post.. Thank you for the link to the Wishes site. Oh my what fun. My heart jumpes when I seen the trucks and tractors posted here. My brother received the First Truck one year. I loved it as much as he did. With just a year and 10 months between us we both fit it and we both loved taking turns saving my diolls from fires. We'd roll screaming down the sidewalk to save the day. Thanks for the memories, oh how I miss those carefree days.

Oh my goodness! I haven't thought about the Wish Book in years but today so many pink friends have remembered it. I also remember spending so many hours "wishing" over that catalog. Thank you for sharing your memory with us on Pink Saturday!

What a lovely blog you have! Thank you for doing me the honor of becoming a follower. I return the favor as you are someone I would love to get to know better!

I remember well the days of waiting for the Sears and Robuck catalog to arrive.

I had an occassion to find one from way back, can't remember the year..but they sold homes in their catalog! Even toilet, sinks etc. came with the home..and it even came complete with wall paper! I wish I had kept it..but I didn't.
I do recall the toilets being pull chained.

What a great post and information you included! Thanks so much!

I just love this Pink Saturday post with all the vintage decorations and toys from the past! (And thanks so much for the link!) I remember having a small iron and ironing board. But my iron got too hot and nearly burned my doll clothes! Thanks for the memories!!! Blessings and hugs! Coralie
