Frankly, My Dear!

Today is the day that Nikki at the Scarlett Rose Garden is hosting the Gone With the Wind Blog Ball in celebration of the 70th anniversary of the 1939 Academy Award winner. The movie was based on Margaret Mitchell's best selling 1937 Pulizer Prize book by the same name. It took her 10 years to write the book. It was her only published book. The novel's leading lady is Scarlett O'Hara, a Southern belle with a strong will and a self-centered heart. But, you can't help but love her!!! Her Southern drawl captivates. My favorite line is at the end of the movie when she says, "After all, tomorrow is another day!" Scarlett feels that Rhett will return with the proper coaxing! After checking out some little known facts about the movie, one that I had not heard before was that Clark Gable didn't consider it one of his favorite roles. He called it a "woman's movie." Gone With the Wind was filmed long before my time, but I can recall Mom and Dad talking about seeing it at the movies as newlyweds. The movie shows a much different time in the South. If there could only be one artistic effort that exemplifies the Old South, Gone With the Wind would be that one! For the most magnificent display of love for this cherished movie, please visit The Scarlett Rose Garden. Nikki has pulled out all the best eye candy for the ball!!!

Great post!
I had heard that Clark Gable felt that way, but although I love almost all his movies, he was meant to play Rhett. He really should have won the Oscar that year.

I too read about this... He only did it because at the time the public made such a fuss about him being Rhett. He finally acquiesced. Good thing! It just wouldn't have been the same with out him.

It's so frustrating that Ms Mitchell ended the book this way.
I do find it comforting that in the actual book Rhett tells Scarlett that he will come back from time to time just for appearances.

Thank you so much for joining in the fun!

It broke my hear to hear that about Clark Gable. But, it certainly did not take way from his performance or the cheistry between he and Miss Leigh. Very nice tribute! Lovely meeting you here at the ball!
