Bird Whistles

I am constantly surprised at all the ways friends in blogland cross paths and share memories. This morning I was visiting Rhonda at http://rhondamum.blogspot.com. She was sharing some finds from an antique store shopping spree that she and her mom took this week. Among her fun and whimsical items was a retro red bird whistle! What a memory! Many years ago my mom and I visited the five and dime in my small hometown. Being very young...6 or so....I was giddy with my allowance in hand. Now mom always said, "Look, but don't touch until you have paid for it!" I picked up the gorgeous green bird whistle similar to the one on this post. While whistling away, I dropped it...It broke!!! Well, since I touched before paying, I had to buy the broken whistle with my allowance. I don't remember getting to keep the sweet little bird even because it was in several pieces. I do remember apologizing to the store clerk...who was not a great fan of children anyway!!! God rest her soul probably by this time! Thanks Rhonda for a walk down memory lane!

Marilyn, that's one memory to last a lifetime...and why do we hang on to the ones that were upsetting at the time? I'm sure we learn from things that happen to us but I'm always wondering why we "keep" those that aren't happy!!

Thanks for sharing your story with us. I love it when I am reminded of things from my childhood! Glad you found this whistle too!
