Church Bench

The kiss of the sun for pardon,
The song of the birds for mirth,
One is nearer God's heart in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth.
~Dorothy Frances Gurney, "Garden Thoughts"

I went to Mass this morning in my yard. We had a wonderful thunderstorm in the early hours on Saturday morning. Afterwards, my array of new potted plants purchased over the last couple of weeks were begging to move into their new terra cotta abodes to grow and bloom. Saturday's agenda was too full for planting. So, this morning I potted Sweet Willams and Johnny Jump Ups...placed flowering moss in two hanging baskets...planted a variegated patio rose....placed a coleus on a French plant cart on the pool's deck....told the snapdragons how pretty they are...sniffed the jasmine's tiny yellow flowers and held fresh lavender. The homily was excellent, as I thanked God for all my blessings.
