A Special Pink Saturday!

For the second week of December's Special Pink Saturdays, the posts are all about favorite Christmas decorations. I actually have two favorites from long ago. The bright blue, red, green, and yellow lights that lit up our Christmas tree certainly take page one in the book of Christmas memories. Daddy always tested the lights before placing them on the tree because in the 50's, if one light bulb was out on the strand, all the bulbs were out. So, he would test them while Mama stood by with replacement bulbs, always trying to match the color of the "bad" bulb with the new one. That was very important! Then, my second favorite ornament was icicles! Do you remember those shiny tinsel icicles that had to be placed very selectively for the right effect? Daddy usually directed me on how to "throw" the icicles on the tree. It was really "draping." He reminded me not to "clump" the icicles, but to "fling" a few at a time and to be sure to treat each branch with the same "number."! Of course, those ornaments of long ago will always be safe in my heart. The pics shown here are from a 1950's Spiegle catalog that you can browse on Wishbook Web.

This year the lights are clear, and there won't be any "aluminum icicles." There will be simple bows, birds, and berries. The ornaments are mostly handmade. I am sharing a picture of a Christmas tag that was tied on a branch last year.I found the set of tags on Etsy. This simple little bauble brought so many compliments. It really speaks to me of the beautiful song that nature sings during this sacred holiday season.

Happy Pink Saturday I enjoyed my stroll through your Christmas memories and I remember both well. I was nostalgic this year and found the tinsel icies but there are no longer aluminum but plastic and just don't give the same effect and now I have a feeble facsimile. Merry Christmas, Mollye

How absolutely and positively WONDERFUL! You know, I ♥ Pink Saturday but when you can pair it with Christmas - my gosh, what could be better? And, you did a marvelous job☺ What a welcoming home you have...

My gosh, testing the lights. I hadn't thought about that for ages and it looked the same at my house when I was a kid. Daddy with the lights and mother with the bulbs. This really took me back...sigh.

Loved your post today, just loved it. Wishing you a weekend filled with fun, family and friendship.

I love your sweet chickadee tag. did you make that? Yes I remember the large bulbs. And the tinsel... that was always a bit of a chore to us kids... it would start out nice and then there would be clumps in spots. ha! Pink Blessings!
