Winter Thoughts

"There is a privacy about it which no other season gives you. In spring, summer, and fall people sort of have an open season on each other; only in the winter, in the country, can you have longer, quiet stretches when you can savor belonging to yourself."
-Ruth Stout, 1955

Perhaps, those are the thoughts of this tiny Pine Fly Catcher. This bird species is native to Guatemala and Mexico. The little one shown on this post was spotted at Choke Canyon State Park in Texas on December 13, 2008. I'd like to think that its graceful wings carried it on a planned journey in search of solitude. (Photo from Peeps Online, The American Birding Association)

What a sweet little bird! Did I ever tell you about the sparrow I rescued and raised from a wrecked nest (and siblings that didn't make it)..in the middle of a busy street in the city? Her name is Lucky now.
